High-Quality, Accessible Care for Every Patient

Health care is the cornerstone of our mission. We believe that every person living with sickle cell disease deserves timely diagnosis, effective treatment, and compassionate care. Sadly, for too many families in Africa, diagnosis comes late—often only after severe complications or hospitalizations. Research from the Muhimbili Sickle Cell Programme showed that without newborn screening, many children were only diagnosed after repeated hospital admissions for severe anemia or infections.

To change this reality, we are expanding access to early diagnosis, with a focus on newborn and infant screening. Detecting the disease early opens the door to life-saving interventions such as penicillin prophylaxis, antimalarial protection, and routine vaccinations.

Our care model is built on standardized treatment protocols, adapted for the Tanzanian context, to guide prevention, crisis management, and chronic care. Patients have access to essential medicines including hydroxyurea, penicillin, and folic acid, alongside safe blood transfusions for those in need. The Muhimbili programme demonstrated how consistent access to these interventions reduces hospitalizations, improves survival, and helps children thrive.

But healthcare is more than medicine. We provide holistic services that include counseling, pain management plans, and nutritional support. We also work to decentralize services, bringing clinics closer to communities, reducing travel burdens, and ensuring that families in rural and urban settings alike can access care.
